Why is it important to consider gender in impact investing? In July of 2018, Canada launched it’s Feminist International Assistance Policy (FIAP) to protect and promote the human rights of all vulnerable and marginalized groups with the goal of effectively addressing the root causes of poverty, which disproportionately affects women and girls. In June, a major new commitment was announced by the development finance institutions (DFIs) of the Group of Seven (G7) nations to mobilize US $3 billion by 2020 for investment in business activities that will benefit women. The impact investing sector in Canada and around the world has been contributing to improving Sustainable Development Goal 5, ‘Gender Equality’, through creating new responsible investing strategies that aim to advance gender equality while generating financial returns. In this session, hear from some of Canada’s leaders in the gender lens and impact investing sectors who are championing Canada’s gender agenda at home and abroad.
